Verdi’s opera. Macbeth in 4 acts

Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Macbeth” is one of the composer’s finest achievements. The maestro’s tenth operatic work and the first based on a Shakespeare play, it is filled with deep meaning, intense passions, and a high degree of emotion.

The English playwright’s tragedy fully met the composer’s expectations; he had dreamed of presenting multifaceted psychological portraits of the characters on the operatic stage. Verdi not only explained to the soloists in detail all the subtleties of the vocal lines but also acted as a director, paying close attention to the characterization of the role.

The premiere of the opera “Macbeth” took place in Florence in 1847. Almost twenty years later, in 1865, the opera, significantly revised by Verdi, was staged for the first time in Paris.

It is in the second version that one of the most mystical operas will be performed for the St. Petersburg public and visitors to the city. Not all directors take on the task of staging it.
